How it started

The Big Barn Dance started as casual Saturday night get-togethers, where people two-stepped under the stars near Taos, New Mexico. Throughout the 1990s, Casa de Caballos Ranch in Des Montes became the home of an authentic mountain country barn dance. Michael Hearne’s band, South by Southwest, played regularly, drawing in musicians and dancers alike. In 2003, inspired by those summer nights, Michael created the Big Barn Dance Music Festival. Over 21 years, it’s grown into a Southwest music staple, featuring talented songwriters and bands.

Now, the festival is expanding beyond New Mexico. In partnership with Destination Bryan, the Big Barn Dance is coming to Bryan, Texas. It’s a mix of great music, dancing, and fun, all wrapped into a true listening room experience. The festival ends with the famous Big Barn Dance. So, come join us in Bryan, Texas, for an unforgettable weekend!
